Our Story

The Beginning!

Our little acre started in 2010 as a 20x30 garden. We sifted through layers and layers of rocks (otherwise known as “Bitterroot Potatoes”) to get there.

We planted bush beans, strawberries, peas and potatoes. The best potatoes we’ve had to date were from the first year of that garden!

It was really successful for the first couple of years, but after a while, we started to feel like we weren’t doing anything but weeding.

Then Paul brought home a little 10x10 frame he’s picked up at a garage sale for $20. We covered it in a lightweight plastic to keep it insulated.

This was a terrific beginning! We reclaimed brick from a neighbor’s remodel and used it as our floor.

We were off and running (we even extended it by a few feet the next year)!

Then Paul built me the Big Greenhouse. For the walls, we used some garage doors and windows we’d collected from around the community. We purchased a few pressure treated boards for supports, and covered the roof with lightweight plastic.

We even moved the old bricks over and used them as the floor for this new greenhouse!

This greenhouse is 18x32, and we’ve kept every bit of it full each year! Since then, we have added a 14x40ft hoop house and our 16x21ft sunroom off of our house to accommodate these beautiful flowers and vegetables!
